Hi there. I’m Desmond Ong from DesmondBlog.com. I’m currently staying in Kuala Lumpur. I don’t have a specific area of IM expertise but I am widely known as a site flipping expert, product launch expert and niche marketing expert.

2. Share with us your first success in Internet Marketing and how did you do that

My first success took some time because I’ve wasted a lot of time making money through eBay. I started making the big pile of money when I started to get into the niche marketing business.

I was selling $97 eBooks and I was hooked when I started to sold a few copies in the first week.

I like to call myself SEO-retarded because I am simply too lazy to learn about the search engines and how to game it. So, driving organic traffic was definitely something that I was not good at. I managed to overcome that by paying for traffic through PPC.

That’s how I managed to get those sales for my eBooks.

3. Share with us one obstacle which you have overcome and you have learnt alot from it

I think the worst obstacle that I’ve got is probably not having enough time to manage my online business. As I am a college student, it’s pretty difficult for me to juggle my social life, family, education as well as my online business.

I find that I could take good care of my time better as soon as I started using a to-do list.

4. Share with us one mindset tip you would like to share with others, especially those who find IM hard

Action SCREAMS louder than words.

I’ve trained A LOT of people and given them A LOT of opportunities and most of them just gave up halfway because they don’t take actions and procrastinate too much.

There’s no way you will be making money online if you don’t take action. It’s like waiting for a free lunch – which is not possible.

I also think that a lot of people who think IM is hard like to blame other people for their failures. They tend to blame the gurus for their mistakes which is just stupid in my opinion.

They need to understand that for every mistake they made, they are learning something new – and learned how to avoid that same mistake again.

5. Share with us one product/ service of yours which you feel is very unique

I would say the most unique product or service that I’ve ever created is probably my personal coaching program that is not for sale.

I worked really hard to train my students from zeros to heros because I can see the joys when some of my students called me up in the middle of the nights just to tell me they raked in $500 or so.

I pay very close attention to my private students because I want them to learn what they deserved to learn and guide them away from those so-called gurus.

I also have a product called The Site Flipping Code (www.siteflippingcode.com) which I created together with my business partner, Jani G from London. That is the first ever product where I actually partner someone else instead of developing the whole product myself. Also, I’ve spent countless hours to develop and test the product’s quality. So, I guess that makes it a unique product.

6. One project you are working on right now and you would like my readers to know

I know that a lot of newbies come online to “test” water. I was one of them except that I had the mindset of wanting to succeed.

This is very important as online marketing may seem difficult initially and with the mire of information overload, many newbies and even those who have been trying for a year or two give up.

Know your strengths and develop a simple to follow plan. Frankly, the first hurdle is always the first sale. Once you get it, you will get hooked.

Trust me, I have taught a number of folks, and one of more students told me that ever since he made his first sale, that totally broke his mindset that money cannot be made online.

Once you make your first sale, it is time to scale things up.

Now, successful marketers succeed not because they are smarter or what. They just follow a simple formula, if something works, scale it up.

So if you realize that article marketing works for you, then scale it up. Write more, submit more and outsource.

The important thing is to find something that works for you, improve and fine tune the process and automate it by outsourcing.

And it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made! Things that took me days to figure out, was handled within a few short hours.

Needless to say, this has helped me to dramatically improve my business.

I guess that’s the biggest problem with most internet marketers who are just starting out… They try to do everything themselves.

It really pays to “learn to let go” and get someone else better, to do the work for you.

That way, things can get done more efficiently.

Well, I’m going to be a little “in their face” and tell them that Internet marketing is actually very simple.

You see, an average person gets bombarded with so much negativity from family and friends almost every day, telling him or her why this can’t be done or why that won’t work.

And before they know it, they have also become part of the negative crowd, believing that “nothing “is possible, when they haven’t even lifted a finger.

If you want to succeed from internet marketing, you need to learn how to shut yourself out from all the negativity.

If you need advice, approach only those who have made it themselves… And listen attentively to what they have to share with you.

Once you have found an expert whom you want to learn from, I recommend that you put your heart and soul into… And learn as much as you can from him.

With so many money making methods available online.

I know there are many people who are confused and struggle to make money online. As we know, the number 1 way to make money online is to build a huge responsive list.

The very first obstacle that I have is coming from my children. From a 24/7 mummy to a work from home mummy, I have to sacrifice some of my time with them and of course, my children voice out their objections through tantrum throwing and refusing to let me go out to work.

Moreover, during the preparation of the launch of the first issue of Motherhood Monthly, my daughter was sick for almost 2 months with rotavirus. I slept for only about 3 to 4 hours every night. It was tiring. From there, I learn to optimise my time and manage my time better.

The second obstacle, I am not a very frontline person though I use to be a financial planner for 2 years. However, I need to be the marketing person for the magazine as it was a one “woman” show. It does help in moulding my marketing skills which is an essential skill to succeed whether you are working or setting up your own business.

4. Share with us one mindset tip you would like to share with
others, especially those who find IM hard

IM is not only hard. I think it is extremely hard. I guess to succeed in IM, you have to know clearly what you want and what you are interested in. Do not give up easily.

I always know I want to be in the parenting niche and here I am now. It does take time to build. Do not believe in quick successes and earn money easy scheme. You are likely to be disappointed when you don’t see the returns. Handle it like a true business and manage it with your heart and soul.

5. Share with us about the uniqueness of one of your products.

Motherhood Monthly is an online parenting magazine whereby readers can read at their convenience. It is a free subscription magazine as I want to reach out the more parents. It is the first online magazine in Singapore with the feel of a hard copy format.

We treat our sponsors and advertisers seriously. We look into long term working relationship with them and see how we can help them create more awareness rather than just purely advertising.

6. One project you are working on right now and you would like my readers to know

Hi guys, my name is Sean and I have created a product showing you exactly how I have been making $2500 – $4000 from eBay and selling offline for over 4 years.

I am KC from Singapore and is now running running an Internet Business Consultancy Firm to help individuals and companies to improve their online conversions.

My strength is in Search Engine Optimization and Landing Page Optimization. I am a certified Google Analytics Professional as well.

2. Share with us your first success in Internet Marketing and how did you do that

I stumbled upon my first success when I was trying to sell a brand new site without any traffic.

I build up the site using RSS feeds and integrate some monetization channels such as Google Adsense, Amazon and AzoogleAds and find that people are buying this type of web sites.

I later mass produce this type of sites and able to generate ROI as high as 2000% just by selling these websites without any traffic. I also wrote a book, ‘The Essential Guide For Forum Entrepreneurs‘ back in 2007 teaching people how I did this.

3. Share with us one obstacle which you have overcome and you have learnt a lot from it

The major obstacle that I have faced is the limit of the passive income that I was earning from a website a few years ago. I was earning about US$100 from a website derived from the Google Adsense and it just seems impossible for me to go beyond that earnings.

I wouldn’t dare to make any changes as I fear that the change will sabotage my existing passive income. This is a very wrong way of thinking and I finally got myself to do some changes after I read about other people’s success stories in the Adsense blog. I end up having an increased of 50% in income by enlarging the Adsense text ads box. Minor change, great results.

I learn something very important from this lesson here: We must keep testing.

4. Share with us one mindset tip you would like to share with others, especially those who find IM hard

I have been talking to many people who are new to Internet Marketing and many want to earn money without putting in any capital. This is possible but it takes a great deal of time and learning experiences. One mindset shift is that you need to put in some investment if you want to be successful faster.

For me, I have never learnt so much in such a short time if I did not spend thousands of dollars exploring (and failing) new online opportunities and attending seminars. If you are able to anchor that pain of failing, you will not repeat the same mistake again. However, if you do not put money into any thing in the first place, you will hardly feel any pain, hence, little learning experiences.

5. Share with us about the uniqueness of one of your products.

I am one of the first few Internet Marketers back in 2007 to dominate the niche, Forum Entrepreneurship. I teach people to package and sell products / services in the forums and earn a profit from there. The book is titled, ‘The Essential Guide For Forum Entrepreneurs’. The principals written in this book is still valid while you are reading this interview.

6. One project you are working on right now and you would like my readers to know

I am currently working on an online course program that will teach people to create profitable website based on what I am teaching now in my course (offline). This project will be launched near the end of year and students will be able to learn at their own pace from website creation (using powerful CMS like Joomla) to monetization of the Internet Business.

I would like to share with everyone who is reading this interview that many Internet Marketers give up easily because they treat their Internet Business like a website or web page. In order to break through our current earning level or generate a buzz, we need to think of it as a business.

2. Share with us your first success in Internet Marketing and how did you do that

My first big breakthrough in the IM scene was when I co-created my first software product with my partner Jonathan Teng. What originated as a simple rebrandable software idea – Keyword Buzz – soon catapulted into a whole range of successful rebrandable buzz software that you see being circulated around the internet today.

It was our very first product launch together and it was run as a Warrior Special Offer. I must say it did pretty well as our very first customers included heavy weights like Ewen Chia, John Delevara, JP Schoeffel, Ian Del Carmen, Gabor Olah, Jeff Dedrick and many others.. Considering the fact that we were complete unknowns, it was quite a feat. Well, when I started out, I was honestly dead broke. I was a full-time student back then and I’m not afraid to admit that I had almost zero savings and I come from a really humble family. Still, I literally scrimped and saved all I could so I was able to invest in useful guides and courses which indirectly contributed to the results I’ve achieved today.

I’m sure many people might be able to relate with this obstacle as many people might have decided to go into IM because they’re broke as well. No doubt, it’s not going to be easy as with little capital also means you have less to spend on advertising and cannot afford as many trials and errors.

But, what I’ve learnt from it is, do not view this as a huge obstacle and use it as an excuse to quit. Instead, use it as a driving force. Simply because you have little capital also means you have less room for failure, so use that to motivate yourself to really go all out to achieve your goals. Never use your lack of finances as a reason to justify your failure. If you do that, you’re simply self-pitying yourself and obviously it’s not going to help.

Just put aside all your negative thought and focus on all the things that will help you achieve success.

4. Share with us one mindset tip you would like to share with others, especially those who find IM hard

Be patient and not expect overnight success. Ask around and you’ll realize most successful marketers did not achieve their status today without experiencing numerous failures before. In fact, this applies to any industry. Without failures, there won’t be avenues for learning experiences, which are so valuable in life.

True enough, failures can be painful. But every successful entrepreneur certainly has to learn how to deal with failure effectively and use it to their advantage. So, I would advise those who find IM hard and are on the verge of quitting, to understand that it’s alright to fail.

The important thing is to learn from your failures and ensure that you do not repeat the same mistakes. When you do that, you’re bound to get closer to success each time.

Hi,

It has been a fulfilling week for me and my team as we move into another new level of product creation. We are now doing audio and video products.

I have been in internet marketing field for about 1 year now and looking back, it is really amazing how much we have done over this short period of time.

I have managed to speak to some of you and I realised the most common problem that new marketers face is they do not have a product. To be more direct, I think one has a very vague idea of what to create in the first place.

Now, let me show you what you can create one and right now…Yes! Right now!

So don’t blink your eyes! :p

It does not matter what niche you are in. There is always a product to meet your customers’ need.

*1. Report:
A report can be about 3 to 5 pages long. What you need is a cover page, a title and the article.

Remember to add in a contact-me page so that the reader knows how to get in touch with you.

Remember you can convert your report to PDF format.

Let’s say you are in fish niche. You can do a simple report on how to take care of your pet fish and recommendations to products such as fish filters, fish tanks, air pumps and so on.

*2. E-book (Electronic book)
An ebook can be from 15 pages long to 50 pages long. In fact, you realise that an ebook can be made up of 3 to 10 reports.

If you are creating an ebook, remember to add an ebook cover (which is a graphic image), content page and an about-me page.

If you are in the travel niche, you can write an ebook on the travel experience you have done over the years and recommend affordable lodgings and air fares.

*3. Email course
An email course is a series of emails sent to your customers at different intervals. It can be in the range of 7 to 14 emails.

In every email, you can add in a useful tip for your reader or paid subscriber.

Remember to get an autoresponder such as GetResponse to queue your autoresponder emails.

For example if you are in the diet niche, you can add content such as how to lose weight, how to choose healthy food wisely, how to process the food such that they do not lose their vitamins and so on.

*4. Audio Product
One of the easiest and fastest way to create a product is to do an audio product if you do not like to write or type.

There are two ways to it.

You can share your ideas and thoughts and speak into a mic. Go get a headphone with a mic and it makes things easier for you.

The second way is to interview other bloggers or experts in your niche.

For example, while preparing for the bonus for an upcoming launch of Mega Red Packet, I did interviews with the creators of the experts.

What I needed were Skype, a headphone with a mic and a Skype recording software – Pamela Systems.

Use Audacity to do the editing of the mp3. (Download the Lame_enc.dll file in order to convert the file to mp3 format)

Interview can be about 25 minutes long for a start. As for me, the interviews that I did is about 45 minutes long in order to fully make it a high-value pack content.

*5. Private Label Rights
If you do not have the time to create your own product, you can buy Private Label Rights products.

Now with the easy availability of video cameras, one can easily create a video of less than 10 minutes.

Check out YouTube. There are tons of videos which could be sold as video products.

One good software I recommend is Camtasia which allows recordings of screen shots off your computer screen.

Similar to audio interviews, you can also do video interviews. You can either interview yourself or other experts in your niche.

This concludes my sharing of the many types of products which you can easily do.

How you should align the whole system:

As I have always told my students in my coaching program, the very first step of product creation is to start off from something you are comfortable in.

I know James can write very well and I suggested that he starts off with an email course.

Susan is more vocal, has a pleasant voice and she can start off with audio product or podcast.

It really depends on yourself.

Generally, starting off with an email course is the easiest.

Step 1: get an autoresponder

Step 2: write up 7 useful emails relating to your niche

Step 3: space them out at 2 to 7 days’ interval (up to you)

Step 4: along the way, as you create more report, ebooks, videos and so on, all you need to do is to insert the download link into the present emails or create new emails.

Step 5: continue to find more info which benefit your subscribers and continue to build relationship with them

There are 3 advantages in following these 4 steps:
1. You will own your personal list.
2. You get to help your subscribers by offering them useful and high value info right at their door step
3. You start right NOW and you are far better off than 99% of others who do not have their product yet.

As I have said earlier, you got to start now. 80% of the marketers who made money have their own products. Start creating your product now.

I am a strong believer that anyone can succeed as long as they are willing to do whatever it takes to make it work. You see, each of us, including you, possesses a unique strength and you can leverage on it to become successful. That is why I go into coaching.

In addition, I like to keep things simple and sweet so that my customers can easily understand what I want to say. This goes the same for the products I create. I feel that most info-products are not detailed enough for readers to easily follow and others could be quite long-winded. We already have so many things in our mind and it will definitely be helpful if the info products are simple and sweet.

I started my wedding planning blog while I was planning my wedding. It was a good avenue for me to vent my wedding frustration. Haha…all grooms need these as managing your own wedding can be really very stressful. :p

My first earning came in when I earned a few cents from Google Adsense. It was a thrilling experience despite the small amount.

My subsequent success came in when my wedding blog started receiving more traffic and more advertisers approach me to ask to place their ads on my blog.

In my internet marketing journey, I have always abide by these 3 principles:
1. build strong relationship with your joint venture partners and advertisers
2. brainstorm with my partners on new ideas on how to scale my business once a month
3. create new products/ services to better the lives of my customers

It sounds like a lot of things to do. Yes, indeed it is. But by doing all these 3 things, your business will definitely succeed. Most internet businesses fail because they fail to bond with their partners. It is also important to create value for your customers and the money will naturally come later.

The first obstacle I face in Internet marketing is I tend to overwork. I am a workaholic. There was one time my health got affected and I was experiencing chest pain. It was not easy for me. It was then I started to be more aware of my own health.

The second obstacle is that I have been a mild stutterer for my past 10 years. It posts as a challenge for me to network with Joint Venture partners in social gathering events. It had never been easy for me to share my ideas infront of a group of people. It can be really daunting and fearful at most of the times.

However, I never let my weakness prevent me from meeting people and getting to know them. Now I can say I have improved and still doing my best to cope with my anxiety and stuttering. It is not easy but as we know, being a successful entrepreneur is not easy too. Sooooo…I will just do my best.

In fact, what I want to say is that each of us has a weakness or two. And it is really up to us if we can move on with our lives and leverage and focus on our strengths. It is not easy but it is not impossible. If I can do it, you can too.

Other obstacle I had was I was I had to juggle my time between a full-time job and my online business. I had to work from 9am to 6pm. After a quick dinner, i resumed work at home working on my online business from 7pm to 2am almost every day. It was not easy and it took a lot of persistence from myself and support from my wife for me to pull through. I also have to learn to balance the time between managing my business and spending time with my family.

4. Share with us one mindset tip you would like to share with others, especially those who find IM hard

I would like to share with you 3 important mindsets (instead of one) which I feel all internet marketers should have. I believe it is your attitude, commitment and passion. Start off with your passion as it will keep you burning after you feel burned out. Your positive attitude will keep you committed to attaining success which you have planned.

In mid 2008, I started documenting my success stories in my first product. 6. One project you are working on right now and you would like my readers to know

Right now, I am working on a joint venture contest for my latest product ProductWealthSecret.com. This product teaches how you can easily create a product with zero experience and still able to build a profitable business from your home. As we speak, we are also striking joint venture with more partners of mine.

In addition, I am also working on a blog membership site to better serve my subscribers. We decided to do this after we have tons of feedback from our customers that they want a blog membership site which they can become a paid member and get regular updates and lessons on blogging.

7. One last tip you want to share with my readers

I think the main obstacle for any newcomer to this field is information overload. There is just too much information available. Thus, this is where they get easily lost or they get easily distracted by the vast number of opportunities to make money online.

In addition, most see internet marketing as get-rich-fast scheme. And they soon give up because they feel they are spending too much time and not seeing any results.

What I can suggest for new comers is that they must willing to put in consistent daily actions. The keyword here is “consistent”. It does not matter how many hours you put in a day, be it 3 hours or 8 hours. Just make sure you put in enough hours daily and work towards your dream. If he is not ready to spend about 3 to 4 hours daily on his business, he is not ready to start yet. And give yourself 5 years period to build your business. It is a business afterall and time and effort have to be invested.
