Hi, my series of email interview is BACK!!!

For this new series, I am interviewing local entrepreneurs. And the questions will be based more on “Mindset of Entrepreneurs”.

From my own experience, striving to be successful for online and offline businesses requires you to have a strong mindset.

* Start of Interview *

1. Please share with my readers who you are and what nature of business you are running.

[Violet:] I am Violet, happily married with two wonderful kids and I am a professional matchmaker.

2. What motivates you to create your business?

[Violet:] Well, I have my ex-colleagues to thank. While working in the bank, I realised that a lot of my colleagues were single and not dating, and I was quite puzzled as they were all eligible and attractive people. Upon further investigation, I realise that it’s because they were all married to the bank. At the same time, I realised that a lot of my friends were either getting engaged or getting married. Most of my friends knew their other halves at school or at university. That’s how I met Jamie, my then boyfriend, now husband as well. It then dawned upon me that when people ‘missed the boat’ of meeting the right one while studying it gets increasingly difficult for them to meet like-minded singles thereafter.

Coincidentally, at the same time, I came across the concept of lunch dating that has been popular in UK, US and Australia but nobody has brought the idea into Singapore or even Asia at that time. Having been active in community service since I was a student, I like the idea of this concept as it combines my passion for business with my passion of helping people.

3. Were there any challenge you face along the way? Please share one which almost stop you from pursuing your dream

[Violet:] Definitely. When you are a start-up or an entrepreneur, you will be spending most of your time fire-fighting as there is no SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for you to follow. There were many challenges along the way, but with the help of my partner who is also my husband, and the rest of my team, we were able to overcome these challenges one-by-one. I don’t think there wasn’t any challenge that stop me from pursuing my dream as whatever the challenge might be, I would strive to overcome it. We had a scare when the economy collapsed, and we just expanded to Hong Kong then. But with God’s grace and team work, we pulled through and managed to build up our presence in Hong Kong.

4. How did you cope then? What motivates you to push on?

[Violet:] I believe that it is normal to feel down and out. However, just do not dwell in darkness for too long. You have to pull yourself up and face up to the challenge. When Jamie and I set up the company, we set our vision and mission statement which I refer back to if I am ever in doubt of what we are doing. I believe that we are here to help singles, and along the way, we realise that this is probably our calling. I have been blessed with a loving husband, a beautiful family and I believe that I am here to help singles out there find the happiness that I have found.

5. If there is this one tip you can share with anyone who wants to start a business, what is it?

[Violet:] There are many ways to make money. Therefore, do not go into a business just with the intention to make money. Of course it is important for any business to be profitable. But if you do not have the passion for your business, you are better off working for someone else. Keep in mind, 90% of first businesses fail in the first five years. There are many challenges and speed bumps when you start and run a business. If you do not have the passion to fuel you through, you will burn out really quickly.

6. How do you juggle your time between running your business and spending it with your family.

[Violet:] With a lot of help and support! Contrary to what some might believe, I am NOT a superwoman. I can only be doing all that I am doing because I have a team of wonderful cheerleaders and supporters – my husband, my parents, my in-laws, my extended family, my helper, my team at work who help me pursue and fulfill my dreams. I make it a point to spend the weekend with the family. Thus, if I have to work on the weekends, I would take a day off during the week to spend time with them. One of the perks of running your own business is that you have time flexibility. If I take time out from work to spend time with them in the day, I can just make it up by working at night after they have gone to bed.

7. Any other final thing you would love to share in this interview.

[Violet:] There are many paths to success and personal fulfillment. The path of entrepreneurship is not for everybody, but if you have the passion to help others through what you do, and the determination and perseverance to take the path less travelled, I strongly encourage you to pursue your dreams and reach for your stars! It is not easy. There are many hurdles.

For me, back in 2006, I was a normal guy. (I am still is…:p)

I ventured into the world of make-money-online niche while everybody else was saying it was too saturated and it was impossible.

I knew these were true BUT I persisted on.

I guess I am the little fly which kept on flying while being swapped a few times.

This is how I did it…this is my secret…

I know it is not easy. This is not for the faint-hearted. BUT if you have a very clear direction and you are very FOCUSED, you will be able to build an authority figure within a very short time.

Below, I am going to share 5 secrets on how I managed to do it and brand myself as an expert blogger.

1. Mingle where your targeted customers are online

I realised my potential customers are marketers wannabes. Then, one of my friends, Shree told me about Warrior forum, a very popular internet marketing online forum. That was where I have successfully sold my first product and it was a BIG HIT!

2. Mingle with other authority figures in similar niche

I got some help then. Before I launched my blogging product, I was doing alot of networking in the forum with other forum members. I did it genuinely because I love making friends.

We exchanged many IM tips and soon we become great friends.

I managed to garner enough support when I launched my blogging product.

The forum is an interesting place. If you mingle with influential members or you provide good quality tips, you will seen as a very knowledgeable person and someone who is willing to help other forum members.

3. Be concise in your branding

I was testing all areas of Internet marketing from affiliate marketing, product creation to blogging.

I felt I was all over the place. It seemed like I do not have a consistent brand. While I was having a headache deciding what to brand myself as, I heard from another big time marketer Ron Douglas that he heard many Warriors (Warrior forum members) called me the blogging guy.

So that was it!

I decided to brand myself as a blogging expert. This makes my product and services more streamline as all of them are related to blogging now.

4. Market your brand consistently

Deciding a brand for myself is only half the work done. I have to learn to consistently market myself as the pro-blogger, from the design of my personal blog (this one which you are reading) to my name cards. I was interviewed a few times before by local magazines and the things I need to say have to be consistent too.

It was not easy and now I am still doing my best.

5. Be humble

I am not sure if you are expecting some surefire new tactic but personally, I feel that the traditional value is still very important.

You can build all you want but if you are not humble….hmmm…whatever you have painstakingly built will go down the drain overnight…Guaranteed!

It was a hectic week as I began to learn to be a first-time daddy.

Thank to some subscribers, I manage to get many helpful parenting tips from very experienced parents, grandparents and even great grandparents. Wow! “One even told me she has 7 great grand-children!

Somehow, it makes me wonder how inadequately I am equipped with parenting tips. My hands shivered as I carry my child to bottle-feed her. My heart throbbed and I am so scared I may if I am feeding her correctly. Typical anxiety of first time daddy, I guess.

Anxious, yes. But it is not stopping me from being the best daddy I can be.

Amazing how much you can learn just by asking friends who I can trust…friends like yourself.

And when it comes to family members (somebody you love or who means alot to you), I am sure you will do whatever it takes to take good care of them.

And most importantly, I can feel the energy…so much positive energy.

I would like you to channel this positive energy and leverage it onto this journey of creating your profit-making blog and making a positive difference to your own life.

Make a commitment to yourself that you are willing to invest in your own future.

Similarly to taking care of someone, we do not know anything at first. But we have to do it anyway and everyday.

And gradually, we improve along the way.

Likewise in blogging or creating a product to market, there are many things you have yet to learn.

If you do not know how to set up a blog or install plugins, invest in paid ebooks or services which can help you.

If you do not know how to market your blog, invest in a blogging coach to guide you and help you reach your goal.

If you do not know where to start, invest in paying an experienced marketer who you believe and trust and pay him for his coaching service.

Being successful does not come free. There is a price to pay. Pay for the price to be successful. Only those who are willing to invest in themselves will have a higher chance to be successful.

Hi,

I was talking to a very close friend this morning and I shared with him about secrets – my struggles while building my online business, something I seldom shared with other people.

He looked at me in absolute disbelief! It was as if I was lying with my eyes wide open.

I confided in him that I am always anxious and worried about not being able to complete my projects on time.

And my baby girl is going to be born any moment. There are going to be many more uncertainties ahead. I am not sure how much time I will have for my business, for my family and for her.

Still not believing me and the words he was hearing then, he admitted to me that he had always thought I am a care-free guy, friendly, always smiling and with no problem, no worries and no complaint.

This is what I told him…about my secret…

I just simply told him I don’t complain and grumble much. And thus he heard none from me.

Hi,

I have many emails applications for the $697 coaching program which I have released 2 days ago.

In total, I have 21 email applications.

Most of the emails for the coaching applications mentioned that they have either no money, no time or not willing to work 8 hours a day to build your business.

Yes, I rejected most of them.

Talking about having your own business, I must admit it is never a smooth route and it is a long journey.

Even the shortest time frame is going to take 6 months to a year, assuming you are using the correct strategy and you have the right mentor like myself to guide you.

Definitely, you must invest money, time and effort in building your business from scratch – one brick at a time.

1. Money:
I have heard tons of excuses that they (other people) have no money. I am not talking about 4 figures investment. I am talking about skipping a cup of coffee a day – about US$3 and investing the money into a good book on blogging or self-improvement.

I know it is not easy. Most prefer to relax and rest than to read a book. (Anyway, there is a study done. 75% of book readers never complete reading 10% of their books.)

But trust me, investing in yourself and building your knowledge is going to take you a longer way than that cup of coffee. It is the best investment in your life.

And for those who feel they have no money, find a job and make some money. Use 20% of your monthly salary to invest in your dream.

2. Time:
It is another sensitive topic. Good time management is not easy, but not impossible. I know of people who wasted their time procrastinating while a minority group of people spent every possible minute of their rest time to read books or listen to mp3 about self-improvement tips or business building.

All of us have 24 hours day, not a minute more, not a minute less. Spend your time wisely and plan your daily schedule.

Rome is not built within a day; it is built a brick at a time. So all you need to do is to make sure you move a step ahead every day and you are much better than 99% of the rest of the Earth’s population who is advancing nowhere.

3. Effort:
You got to put in effort in what you are doing. You may fail the first 10 times but are you going to give up then?

Possibly, the 11th time will work. But for the fact that you have given up on the 10th attempt, you would have never realise that your success is just another step away.

So commit to your learning process and commit to your business building process till you get what you want.

In this blog post, I will be talking about 2 things which are very dear to me.

It has been a wild ride for the past 1 years and 10 months. The journey of building my online business is full of ups and down. Nonetheless, it is one of the best life experiences I have.

No word can describe the feelings of being where I am today.

And at the same time, I had never forgotten the pains and stressful feelings I had been through while creating my business from scratch.

It had never been easy. Despite of the availability of resources on the internet, the hardest part is the self-discipline to still get things done despite the fact that everything seemed so blurry and hopeless.

It is a journey to find hope in the midst of the fog and mist.

So how did I push on till today?

While I had the experience of being a mild stutterer since young, I had never given up my hope of being more successful than my peers.

No kidding. Feeling anxious and not able to speak my mind while with my friends is not a pleasant experience at all. In fact, it was tormenting. I would have wanted to find a hole and burrow into it, away from the shame and embarrassment.

So how had building my online business helped me?

Beside having interviewed more than 8 marketers who is making more than $50,000 per month on a consistent level, it has made me believe that anyone, regardless of any degree of adversity he has gone through, can succeed.

Initially, it was not easy. I was a nobody and how would anyone who is a 5 figure earner respond to my interview request. I think it takes sincerity, commitment and a certain degree of good track records.

My online business was built from one brick at a time.

It started off with the success of my wedding planning blog, followed by my well-known Bloggers Paycheck, following by my Blogging Membership site – BlogCashMentor.com

As you can see, it was building an online asset one at a time…and in the process, my list of subscribers and supporters grew from 1000 to over 12,000 within a year.

How fast time flies and moves past us!

Interestingly, most of us might have forgotten the BIG dreams and goals we have set before we went for our new year countdown party. We swear by our dreams how closely we must work on our goals and forge forward, making the year 2010 a completely different and more wonderful year for you and me.

But while I was talking to some of the newbies, most have given up…
not on their dreams…
but on themselves.

Why is it so?

Excuses and negativity sneaked into our vulnerable mind, making us lose our focus and take us off the track.

Oh wait…not forgetting the many voices inside us, which keep on reminding us we do not deserve to be successful.

“You do not deserve this!
“Your mom says so…

Undeniably, losers loses and winners will win.

It is an inner war of constant battling against yourself…

It is a constant struggle inside you.

So why do some people succeed while others don’t?

Don’t they have problems or challenges?

Yes, I am sure they do. You know everyone does. I do have my own adversities too – I was a stutterer.

Anyway, it is not important who has the most adversities in life.

The important thing is what do you do with it.

The winners cast them aside and focus on what they can do.

They focus on their strengths.

So what is the learning point for this post?

If you have only one minute to spare, you should get a dreamboard
done for yourself.

In a dreamboard, you note down what dreams or goals you want.

If you are new to this, you can start off with asking yourself
what you want to achieve for:

2. spouse/ significant other
3. health
4. skill
5. spiritual
6. business/ career
7. luxury

For a start, you can begin planning what you want for the first
3. Personally, I believe that a family must be happy so you can
focus on your carreer or building your business.

And health (in my opinion) is the most important wealth you have
right now.

“I still remember being unwell last week and I couldn’t get anything
done.

In the past, I don’t really believe in dreamboards. In fact, I find that
it is a complete waste of my time.

It was till when I started doing it for my business. I began to accomplish
some of my dreams while others are in the process of being fulfilled.

The benefit of having a dreamboard is that it keeps you FOCUSED!

You got to refer to it and you are Focused on what you really want
in this year (a one year time frame)

One of the main obstacles I overcame was the ‘fear of losing my time and money’. I’d say I used to be quite a control freak and I wanted everything to be perfect and at no loss. As a result, this led to procrastination and well, nothing really got started.

As soon as I realized this mindset that was holding me back, my life turned around completely. Thereafter, I immediately hit the button to put my PPC campaigns to live. I lost some money at first, but I made more than quadruple the amount back through trial and error. I also started to outsource my work and learned to trust others to get the job done for me. Today I get more done… faster, easier, better and with less time and effort.

4. Share with us one mindset tip you would like to share with others, especially those who find IM hard

Stop looking for the next best opportunity and just get the ball rolling. Instead of succumbing to what is being offered to you, learn ‘HOW’ they are being offered to you instead so that you can become a better marketer.

You’ve also got to TAKE ACTION. The truth is nothing happens if you just see there and read e-mails all day.

To be on track with your actions, use a mini-sized notebook to write down your lists of to-dos for the day. Each time you complete a task, cross it out in green. The ones that are not done, use a red pen to bring it forward to the next day.

That where my “Modeling” solution comes about…

Case in point: Let say you want to learn build your business through list building model. Then what you want to do is to find the top 3-5 list building experts and sign up for their list and see what they do.

The secret key here is to observe what they do and model after them and not to do what they say. Observe what they do to build their list. Ask question like what tools and methods are they using for their business to build a huge list. Are they using twitter, article marketing, tell a friend script or teleseminar?

Write down note, screen capture each process you gone through when you sign up for their list or buy their product. I am sure you will learn a lot of thing doing that.

So when you start to do what I have mention above, I promise you that you will cut short your learning curve by at least 3-6 months and start seeing results that you always want to see.

Note: You want to stay focus on one business model and not keep switching around because each time you do that, you will be losing momentum.

Hi, this is going to be a short post before I am taking the
weekend off to relax. It is going to be a swim and relaxing
about a nice dinner with my wife.

I want to share with you some questions some of you
asked me a few days ago.

How do I advance so quickly?

Some internet markets have complimented me, saying
that I have advanced much faster than most
established and very experienced marketers, achieving
certain level of success much faster and within a shorter
period of time.

Let me reveal 3 secret tips.

Yes just 3 and that is all you need to be successful.

1. Find mentors and be sincere in learning from them.

I have 3 mentors who I owed them alot. One of them is Ryan Chua, one of
the owners of Razor for gamers The other
is Calvin Woon from IM Buzz.

Others are respected marketers like Edmund Loh of PLR Gold.

You need to learn from those who walk the talk and model after them.

I am thankful for their teachings and I have really learnt alot.

So what you can do now is to identify successful businessmen or
entrepreneurs around you and ask if they can mentor you.

2. Set milestones.

Within this year alone, my list has grown to over 10,000 subscribers
and we have done product launches, joint venture giveaways and so on.

In fact, a typical path of a marketer can be from
- blogging/ affiliate marketing/ article marketing or any money-making tools
to product creation and recording of what you did to make money
to joint venture to launch your product
to joint venture giveaway or firesale to make more money
to more jvs including cross promotion and cross jvs

So ask yourself where you are now and start moving upwards.

3. Take action, take action and take action.

Simple advice and simple strategy. Just take action after you have set your
milestons and plan your goals.

My grandma lying on the bed, cold and expressionless. The
air around was stiff and everyone was speechless…wondering
what words to feel the dead silence (except for short moments
of whipping of tears)

What do you say to someone who has just passed away?
Or what do you say to those who are still alive standing next to

In such moment of awkwardness, it is really hard to even utter a
simple word of “It is ok to cry.”

My grandma just passed away this morning at 7.49am. I was confused
by what I could do…

cry or not to cry…?

Being in the professional helping line for almost 6 years, it is my
natural instinct to attend to other people’s feelings FIRST.

Many thoughts went through my mind – What if the one on
the bed lying motionless is me?

Or what if it is you?

I like to make this post a simple one. Looking back at my
internet marketing (IM) journey for the past 2 years, it
was really awesome.

No regrets if I am to leave this world today.

Now, let’s talk about us.

It is fate to have us landed in the field of IM.
It is never chance that you chanced upon IM, got
subscribed to my site or get to keep on learning about
what my blog has to offer you.

I feel, since we are presented to this once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to have our lives changed for the better
possibly, we must never give up.

For the fact you are reading this, I supposed you have
never given up on yourself.

Congrats yourself to be a fighter and I know it is never
easy to overcome life adversity and to change our mindset
into a winner’s mindset.

I hope you can still push on and make your life better
and I really hope that we always live our lives to the fullest
and there is no need for us to regret what we have not done
or for not doing what we are supposed to do.

Keep on fighting for the dream you deserved and I

I’m working on a new salesletter for a mass traffic campaign me and my partners are working on, and something just hit me pretty hard. Here’s what it is:

“I know this **** like the back of my hand.”

I mean, I’ve written so many salesletters, I can do this in my sleep.

My son is running around my house (he’s almost 2 now) and laughing, screaming, breaking things and my wife has the TV on full blast, and my sister-n-law is slamming doors as she goes from one room to the next upstairs (not sure what she is doing)…

And I’m busting out a wicked salesletter during all this commotion.

In one hour, I have what most would pay $2500 or more for — wicked copy.

When I teach students this stuff, it’s like… in a matter of seconds I can tell why they are sucking and failing. I can see why others are kicking ass and making fortunes. I can even see on here when someone stands out as a sure-to-be-successful marketer… and I can certainly see when someone comes along just bitching and attacking, all negative and a pain in the ass.

Then it dawned on me, most people never put even a fraction of this hard work into ANYTHING in their lives. Maybe they can swing a mad golf club… or can tell you the names and backgrounds of every character on their favorite TV show… but how many actually get to the point where they can do anything (that makes them money) so well, they can do it in their sleep?

maybe they can do payroll, or taxes, or work some machinery like the back of their hands (because that’s what they do at work), but what do they master? What do they do so well they cant help but make themselves a fortune?

Or, many are just a tiny bit good at everything right?

How many actually bust their asses to the point where there is no doubt. There is no question. There is no hesitation or wonder or reluctance to do something (take action) because they know something so well?

I think very little.

But yet, we have people who continue to buy things, continue to bash and bitch about not making money in this field. I bet none of them have paid their dues. None of them know this stuff like the back of their hands. None of them can do this stuff in their sleep.

What stuff? Any stuff that makes money.

I guess it really is what my old ball coach taught me:

–Desire
–Discipline
–Determination
–Dedication

I guess that paid off. To the tune of millions. And, the wind sprints were not so bad now looking back either.

However, if this is you I’m referring to here, then consider it “tough-love” and understand that it very well could be the missing link you need to hear.

You see, I’m convinced now.

I’ve had thousands of customers and tons of students, and I’ve also paid close attention to many people here on this forum too. I’ve been around a little while now in this market and I’ve watched and learned and tried to figure out what makes people tick. What makes some succeed and most fail…

I’m convinced now that it is indeed a complicated web of barriers, learning curves, and emotions, etc that get in the way for most who strive to succeed online (scratch that, most don’t strive to do a damn thing). Most who exist in this market.

I’d have to say that there are MAJOR barriers for most people, and until they “fix” or overcome those barriers, I personally never see any of them ever succeeding at this, nor anything remotely resembling a real income online.

Here’s one of the big ones:

Initiative!

If we are talking about “most people out there” then this is a huge one IMO. Most out there never take initiative. They never put the responsibilities on their own shoulders. They never take the initiative to figure things out, take some method and roll with it, fill in the blanks as they go… or “just do it”.

It is the BIG separator. Those who succeed, figure it out. They just do it. They do not need every single detail covered, nor everything done for them. They dont need every question answered or every *unknown*, known.

They just figure it out along the way. They put the responsibilities on their own shoulders and they don’t blame everyone, everything out there under the sun. They blame themselves. They don’t say, “Damn Guru, I dont know what to do here in this method you showed me”.

Instead, they say, “I need to figure this part out”. Hence the keyword: “I”

It’s called “something for nothing“. Give me something, so I don’t have to do anything. In fact, aren’t you supposed to do this for me?? I mean, I paid $47. Make me rich already.

Hell, I remember buying a WSO for like ten bucks or something ridiculous, and inside the cheap report was a traffic method using image ads on Adwords. The report said, “there’s no quality score on image ads”.

WHOA! I never thought about that (then). That $10 turned into who-knows-how-much for me. One insight can make all the difference. But, instead here’s what people do in this market:

Buy:: refund :: buy something else:: refund that new thing:: buy something else again:: refund that new thing, and so on and on and on

Never fully ever getting good at a damn thing. Never fully taking initiative to move forward with any method they ever learn. Never focusing on anything, or getting good at anything. They become 10% good at everything, and 10% is not good enough to earn a real income.

Who’s fault is it? The answer should be YOURS.

And that’s why there are people in this market, who have been here for 5 years or more, and still make squat. It’s called initiative.

What are some other BARRIERS that get in the way for most people in this industry?? I’d love to hear of others.

After reading several sales letters in the Internet Marketing arena, we are conditioned to listen to stories of what seems to be overnight success. Stories on how obscene amounts of money were made in a ridiculously short time span.

While it’s possible to achieve that kind of success, the problem is that many people get the illusion that it’s just as possible to get rich quick…

… Without doing any lick of hard work.

In Thinking Big, Donald Trump talks about how the media popularized young celebrities and amazing stories of overnight success, giving young people the subtle idea that they can do it too. They can get rich quick. They can get famous. And do them without working hard for it.

I haven’t met a single successful person who achieved his or her level of success without putting in hard work. Of course, the idea of working hard puts many people off already.

As in the case of making money from the Internet, it’s possible to make the big bucks but only if a solid business system is in place. It’s likened to building a pipe system. It is only when the system is in place, you can start drawing water from the well at the switch of the lever.

The Internet being no exception from offline in this area, it will take time to build a business until it’s solid and self-sustainable. Once your business model is in place and fully working, you too can draw your own wealth from the E-Commerce pie!

One of the biggest reasons why people don’t succeed can be traced from the
very evil word known as “excuses.”

I often hear various excuses. Some say, “I’ll try” or “I’ll see.” No way.
As Yoda said, “It’s either you do it or you don’t. There is no try.” To try
is to exert a half-hearted effort. It is such a weak word. In any endeavor,
you have to push yourself to the limit. Full steam ahead.

There’s no need to make everything perfect before you take action.
Perfectionists never get anywhere because they never start until the
perfect conditions are met. And since nothing is perfect, expecting
perfection is a waste of valuable time.

The important thing is to adjust along the way. The more you don’t start
doing something, the harder it is to get started. If your will to do
something is weak, it will get weaker and weaker until you finally decide
to quit.

Use the power of momentum. Take the all-important first step, and you’re
halfway done. Take the next step, and another, then another. You will
become stronger and stronger as you take more and more steps until you
find yourself on fire and on a roll.
