from lightmash

Do you want to know the shortcut to online success?

I am sure you do my friend. Starting a business online is not as simple as what the salesletter say to be. I hate to tell you this but this is the absolute truth.

There are so many things to learn when you get into this internet marketing stuff. Stuff like list building, traffic generation, product creation and so on and so forth. That is why so many new comers in this market are suffering from information overload.

So is there a really a shortcut to online success?

My answer to you is YES!

Here is my solution to you

– Modeling

I love the phrase that I heard from Armand Morin which is “Success leave traces”. That means behind every success there will be traces that show you how the success comes about.

That where my “Modeling” solution comes about…

Case in point: Let say you want to learn build your business through list building model. Then what you want to do is to find the top 3-5 list building experts and sign up for their list and see what they do.

The secret key here is to observe what they do and model after them and not to do what they say. Observe what they do to build their list. Ask question like what tools and methods are they using for their business to build a huge list. Are they using twitter, article marketing, tell a friend script or teleseminar?

Write down note, screen capture each process you gone through when you sign up for their list or buy their product. I am sure you will learn a lot of thing doing that.

So when you start to do what I have mention above, I promise you that you will cut short your learning curve by at least 3-6 months and start seeing results that you always want to see.

Note: You want to stay focus on one business model and not keep switching around because each time you do that, you will be losing momentum.

(Right click and save target as)
==========================

My name is Elvin Tiong. I am a part time internet marketer and my full time job is mechanical design engineer. I am not an expert in internet marketing field, but I manage to get over 10K of loyal Twitter followers and make sales from my tweets. I am happy to share my success story of using Twitter for marketing with John Yeo’s friends here and how you can make it also.

Not many people know about me in this internet marketing field. However, I am confident to say that thousands of my Twitter followers know me now. I have successfully build my personality online using Twitter. Allow me show you my retweet ranking. This is one of the keys to success in Twitter marketing.

I use retweetrank.com to check my tweets RT rank and I was ranked #5168 out of millions of Twitter users. It is an approximate 98.6 percentile of my tweets getting retweeted (updated on 18 Oct 2009). You may check today also at http://www.retweetrank.com/ElvinTiong

If you are a famous internet marketer, you have your audience on Twitter, and you can make sales easily. However, if you are an ordinary joe like me, and want to turn yourself from nobody to somebody online, you’ll need to follow what I’m going to share with you here.

On Twitter, “retweet” or “RT” is very important to me, because:

   1. I know that my followers are reading my tweets, and they are my true audience
2. I have my name spread widely and fast on Twitter
3. I know what are the information that my followers love from their RT
4. They want to be my true friends
5. They can become my future business partners
6. I know my followers who are not using fully-automated Twitter software
7. I know when they will appear online
8. I have a list of potential buyers in my hand now, although I don’t have suitable products for them yet
9. I am building relationship with my followers, this is the money
10. I can promote the products with information they love and make sales

Getting followers on Twitter is not difficult at all nowadays. However, building relationship with your Twitter followers is the key to success in Twitter marketing. 1,000 true audiences in your Twitter list can be better than 10K followers who do not listen to you. How to get more and more followers listening to you, build positive relationship with them, and gain trust from them before you can make sales are the questions that you need to ask yourself.

One of the ways to build relationship with your followers is to RETWEET (RT) for them and to attract them to retweet for you also. Before you try to make any sales on Twitter, you need to attract your followers to read your tweets. If you are providing value in your tweets, your followers may even try to find your tweets history in your profile. Giving useful information and tips for your followers, warm them up, before you sell. Mix your tweets with some product recommendation and you will be able to make sales. Do not promote link in every tweets!

Yes, this is the easiest and very effective way to build relationship with your twitter followers and you can start to implement this trick right now. Money is in your relationship with your Twitter followers.

Hi, I am delighted to have another friend of mine, Ivan Georgiev to talk about how to be successful in the article marketing.

To be successful, one of the key factors is how to write a persuasive article.
It is not easy but it is possible only if you know how.

>>>Start>>>

Hi Warriors,

Today I want to give you some tips that will be usufull for newbies and advanced article
marketers.

p.s – I just want to say that English is not my first language but I will try my best.

Let’s start.

Since 2008 I have tried to figure out how article marketing works and how to become a 5 figures
per month earner. Really this was my goal but I never follow it. Back at October Last year I build a
blog and manage it to get it to $100/day mark within only 3 weeks. But then I sold that website
and I forgot article marketing once again.

– – - – Until August this year, when I was at vacation for 3 days with my Girl Friend and we had conversation with her about how are we gona live together – like normal people ( I am talking anywhere between $1-3k month ) – This is what I called normal people in my country – most of them will call them rich.

Anyway after we got back from that 3 day vacation we decided we will do a reasearch and put 2-3 review sites that will promote other people products. And here is What we have done under 3 days.

We spent around $200 To get 2 super looking review websites and 15 Articles in Total – Unique content + I payed $10 per article.
Some of you will say: Why Did you spent over $10 per article when you can get your articles for less than $3 each – well the answer is I want to make money so I have to spent money and get quality content.

After we got my review websites up, we got our writer and asked her to write us other batch of 100 articles that we will promote or review sites with them.
We payed a total of $800 for that but we got other batch of 10 articles as a bonus and posted them in my review sites.
So each of our review site now has – 2 product reviews + a total of 8 related articles to my niche.

After two months time working on my new sites – We manage to get both of them on the front page of Google. The first one is also ranking in the 1st position and the second on is 5th position in Google for the main keyword.

* Niche one has over 6,000,000 competition
* Niche two has over 2,500,000 competition

Since that was happened around the middle of September the 1st website was bringing me over $120+ daily commission. We had few days with over $300 in sales just by one of this sites. The 2nd website
hit google front page and position 1st in the end of September I thing it was 27th. That website makes me anywhere between $50-70 daily.

So here is what I did.

1. We posted each of my promotional articles to over 25 directories. So thats a total of over 2500+ backlinks if all of them was accepting my articles (Well to be honest I got my articles accepted
in 23 article directories )

2. We spent nearly 7 days – 14 hours on PC each day – creating videos with my articles. When I hit the 100 videos done ( Thanks to my GF for helping me on that one ) – I start to submit each of my
video to the TOP 10 video websites. That toke me only 2 days. ( Thanks again for the help of my GF ) And that brings me more than 1000 backlinks to my site.

3. We bookmark every promotional article to the TOP 15 bookmarking websites and we also bookmarked our inner pages of our review website.

4. We submit our articles to the TOP 5 search engines and we also submitted our review sites and their inner pages.

5. We done RSS feeds submission.

6. We submit our review websites to over 2000+ directories. This was difficult but it toke us no more than 5 days I guess and we also done other work in that time.

7. This was the last but not the easiest part of our promotion. We build some Blog commenting links to over 100+ PR5 websites. This was diffucult if you ask me.

So all of the above we done it manually – We didn’t use any softwares or any automation tools ( this is just my opinion – I don’t like softwares because I cannot track everything the way I wanted to ).

It toke us 17 days in total to complete all the tasks.

What I learned was – ARTICLE MARKETING ROCKS if you follow your goal and be motivated you will success.

Till today those two websites are making us enough money.

Site one makes us – $150+ daily now
Site two makes us – $80+ daily now

Lets hear your success with article marketing and to the ones who are newbies and thinking of stating just follow your goal and stay motivated.

Thanks
Ivan Georgiev

Eric has recently left an interesting post on “Rich! Who Wants To Be Rich?”

Here is another post from him.

>>>Start>>>

I’m working on a new salesletter for a mass traffic campaign me and my partners are working on, and something just hit me pretty hard. Here’s what it is:

“I know this **** like the back of my hand.”

I mean, I’ve written so many salesletters, I can do this in my sleep.

My son is running around my house (he’s almost 2 now) and laughing, screaming, breaking things and my wife has the TV on full blast, and my sister-n-law is slamming doors as she goes from one room to the next upstairs (not sure what she is doing)…

And I’m busting out a wicked salesletter during all this commotion.

In one hour, I have what most would pay $2500 or more for — wicked copy.

When I teach students this stuff, it’s like… in a matter of seconds I can tell why they are sucking and failing. I can see why others are kicking ass and making fortunes. I can even see on here when someone stands out as a sure-to-be-successful marketer… and I can certainly see when someone comes along just bitching and attacking, all negative and a pain in the ass.

Then it dawned on me, most people never put even a fraction of this hard work into ANYTHING in their lives. Maybe they can swing a mad golf club… or can tell you the names and backgrounds of every character on their favorite TV show… but how many actually get to the point where they can do anything (that makes them money) so well, they can do it in their sleep?

maybe they can do payroll, or taxes, or work some machinery like the back of their hands (because that’s what they do at work), but what do they master? What do they do so well they cant help but make themselves a fortune?

Or, many are just a tiny bit good at everything right?

How many actually bust their asses to the point where there is no doubt. There is no question. There is no hesitation or wonder or reluctance to do something (take action) because they know something so well?

I think very little.

But yet, we have people who continue to buy things, continue to bash and bitch about not making money in this field. I bet none of them have paid their dues. None of them know this stuff like the back of their hands. None of them can do this stuff in their sleep.

What stuff? Any stuff that makes money.

I guess it really is what my old ball coach taught me:

–Desire
–Discipline
–Determination
–Dedication

I guess that paid off. To the tune of millions. And, the wind sprints were not so bad now looking back either.

Eric Louviere

Share with us your thought in the comment below. Eric and I love to hear from you.

Hi, I am delighted to have one of my buddies, Eric Louviere to talk about how to be successful in the internet marketing business. Now he is living in a million dollar house overlooking the georgeous hill country and Lake Austin. “Beautiful place.

>>>Start>>>

This may be of absolute no surprise to you… and most likely this is NOT you… and most likely, will never be you… because you are here, you’re a Warrior, and you’re a go-getting action taker.

However, if this is you I’m referring to here, then consider it “tough-love” and understand that it very well could be the missing link you need to hear.

or read.

You see, I’m convinced now.

I’ve had thousands of customers and tons of students, and I’ve also paid close attention to many people here on this forum too. I’ve been around a little while now in this market and I’ve watched and learned and tried to figure out what makes people tick. What makes some succeed and most fail…

I’m convinced now that it is indeed a complicated web of barriers, learning curves, and emotions, etc that get in the way for most who strive to succeed online (scratch that, most don’t strive to do a damn thing). Most who exist in this market.

I’d have to say that there are MAJOR barriers for most people, and until they “fix” or overcome those barriers, I personally never see any of them ever succeeding at this, nor anything remotely resembling a real income online.

Here’s one of the big ones:

Initiative!

If we are talking about “most people out there” then this is a huge one IMO. Most out there never take initiative. They never put the responsibilities on their own shoulders. They never take the initiative to figure things out, take some method and roll with it, fill in the blanks as they go… or “just do it”.

It is the BIG separator. Those who succeed, figure it out. They just do it. They do not need every single detail covered, nor everything done for them. They dont need every question answered or every *unknown*, known.

They just figure it out along the way. They put the responsibilities on their own shoulders and they don’t blame everyone, everything out there under the sun. They blame themselves. They don’t say, “Damn Guru, I dont know what to do here in this method you showed me”.

Instead, they say, “I need to figure this part out”. Hence the keyword: “I”

It’s called “something for nothing“. Give me something, so I don’t have to do anything. In fact, aren’t you supposed to do this for me?? I mean, I paid $47. Make me rich already.

Hell, I remember buying a WSO for like ten bucks or something ridiculous, and inside the cheap report was a traffic method using image ads on Adwords. The report said, “there’s no quality score on image ads”.

WHOA! I never thought about that (then). That $10 turned into who-knows-how-much for me. One insight can make all the difference. But, instead here’s what people do in this market:

Buy:: refund :: buy something else:: refund that new thing:: buy something else again:: refund that new thing, and so on and on and on

Never fully ever getting good at a damn thing. Never fully taking initiative to move forward with any method they ever learn. Never focusing on anything, or getting good at anything. They become 10% good at everything, and 10% is not good enough to earn a real income.

Who’s fault is it? The answer should be YOURS.

And that’s why there are people in this market, who have been here for 5 years or more, and still make squat. It’s called initiative.

What are some other BARRIERS that get in the way for most people in this industry?? I’d love to hear of others.

Rock On,

From Part 4 of these 5-posts series, now Dee Power of Your Financial Independence Day is going to talk about How to Write Articles That Pull in Readers.

Choosing topics: The easy answer is to choose topics that are the same as the website/blog you are promoting. Narrow down the topic so it’s manageable in 350 to 400 words. That may sound like a lot if you aren’t proficient in writing but the words will fly by.

Write as if you were talking with a good friend and answering her/his questions. For example: If you have a dog care website one question you could answer is “How do I know how much protein is in dry dog food?”

Handle one question or topic per article. Go to yahoo answers for ideas for questions. Go to article directories and see which categories have the most entries. Leaf through hard copy publications to see the topics of their articles.

How to use keyword phrases in your article
Use the keyword phrase in the title as the first few words of the title. Use it once at the end of the first paragraph and again in the last paragraph. Don’t use it more than 4 or 5 times throughout the article. There used to be a rule that a good article, one that shows up on the first page of Google, uses the keyword phrase as a total of at least 10% of the article. That would mean that for a 400 word article, natural dog foods would be used 13 times. That rule, also known as keyword stuffing isn’t relevant any more.

Duplicate content penalty is a myth as far as articles are concerned
Google penalizes for duplicate content but not in the way that affects articles. The penalty is for the same, or nearly same content, on a website or blog that is used to manipulate the search engines. The same narrative is used on different pages within a website with the only difference being the keyword phrase.

Duplicate content penalty doesn’t apply to articles of blog posts. If it did, newspaper syndication companies, like the Associated Press, wouldn’t use it. Here is what Google says about the penalty.
Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Demystifying the “duplicate content penalty”

3 different methods of writing
==============================

Sitting and staring at a blank computer screen while you struggle to get started on your article can be frustrating. Here are three methods that work.

1. Tell them what you’re going to tell them. Tell Them. Tell them what you told them. In the first paragraph state what the article is going to be about. Make a list of 3 bullet points that will be covered in the article. Write a paragraph to explain each bullet point and why it’s important. The final paragraph is a summary of what has been covered in the bullet points.

2. State the problem. State why the problem is important to the reader. Provide a general solution. Provide a specific solution.

3. Introduction of the problem. 3 or 4 tips to solve the problem. Conclusion

Spelling and grammar are important

Using correct spelling and grammar is a courtesy to your readers. While just about everyone except perhaps, your high school English teacher, forgives a spelling error or two, articles loaded with mistakes take away from the content of the article. The mistakes get in the way of the information you want to convey.

Take the time to proof your articles. One way is to let the article sit for 24 hours and then go back to it with fresh eyes. If you’re terrible at proofing see if someone else will do it for you. A clean grammatically correct article shows you value your reader’s time and that they are important to you.

The importance of the author bio box

You’ve incorporated a killer keyword phrase in the title of the article, creatively used it throughout the article and given your reader critical content. Don’t lose them at the author bio box.

Most article directories allow the author to use a credit box at the end of the article with a couple of live links. A good way to capture the reader and motivate them to click on your link is to offer a teaser of more information through the link. Another way is to offer a free report on the same topic as the article.

Spend a little time on your author bio box. Use it to establish your credibility as an expert. Be friendly. Build trust with the reader.

Conclusion

So what are you waiting for? Get writing those articles.

From Part 3 of these 5-posts series, now Dee Power of Your Financial Independence Day is going to talk about Article Writing.

Find a writer who will ghostwrite twenty 250 word articles for you. Ghostwritten articles means that the articles are yours to do whatever you like with after you’ve paid for them. The writer can’t ever sell them to anyone else.

Budget about $50 for these articles. Give your keyword phrases to the writer to use in the title of each article. As the articles are completed have them sent to you in batches of 5. That way you can get started and not have to wait for all 20 to be finished.

If you have never worked with the writer before you might be more comfortable paying 50% of the fee up front and then the other 50% when the articles are completed. Or pay for a package of 5 articles to determine the quality before you pay for all of them. Establish a deadline for each batch of five articles to be completed.

The ghostwriters below are offered as a resource and no particular recommendation is implied. These writers charge various prices, some of which may be more than the budgeted $50.

There are a number of webmaster focused forums where you can post a “want to buy” (WTB) thread. WarriorForums.com and Digital Point are probably the most well known. Join both of these forums as they’re valuable resources beyond finding writers. General membership is free.

Buy a package of at least ten 300 word articles with private label rights (PLR). Visit WarriorForums.com and digital point forums and pick up a package there. Budget about $8.00 for these articles. Different authors offer different types of private label rights. Make sure the PLR you get includes ‘you can edit the material,’ ‘put your name as author,’ ‘use it as web content’ and ‘blog posts.’

Private Label Rights can include:

[YES] Private use
Learn from the materials but you can’t do anything else with the content.

[YES] Can be sold
Sell the content as an ebook and keep the profit. Set up an affiliate program and your affiliates can sell the content as long as you remain in control of it. You have to provide the download link and collect the money and pay your affiliates. Or you can use a program such as Clickbank which collects the money and then pays you and the affiliate.

[YES] Can be given away as an incentive
Use the content as a freebie to motivate people to sign up for your list. Or just give it away.

[YES] Can be packaged with other paid products
If you have other materials on the same subject that you’re selling, combine the content and sell it all together.

[YES] Can be offered as a bonus with paid product
Give the content as a bonus when you sell a product.

[YES] Can Be submitted to article directories (follow their Terms of Service – TOS)
If the article directory says the content has to be 100% written by you, or you have to have exclusive rights to the content, you can’t submit PLR content. You can rewrite it to fit their TOS.

[YES] Can be used as web content
self explanatory

[YES] Can be used as an e-course/autoresponder sequence
Set it up as a series for your autoresponder or sell it as an e-course that’s set up on an autoresponder.

[YES] Can be used as blog posts
Self explanatory

[YES] Can be broken down into smaller articles
Break the ebook or report into smaller chunks and use those as articles, web pages or blog posts.

[YES] Can be combined to create longer articles
Combine shorter articles into a longer article. Or combine a number of shorter articles into a report or ebook.

[YES] Can be edited.
You can change the content however you wish, as much, or as little, as you wish.

[YES] Can have your name put on them
Put your name on the material as the author.

[YES] Can sell Resale Rights
Selling the rights to resell the content. The person you sell resale rights to can then sell the content without paying you any additional money. But that person can’t sell the rights to sell the content to anyone else. Resale rights don’t mean you can change the content, add to it, edit it, or put your name on it, unless these other rights are granted as well.

[YES] Can sell Master Resale Rights
One step further than resale rights. The person can sell the rights to sell the content to anyone else and they can then resell the content and so forth.

[YES] Can sell Private Label Rights
Selling the private label rights to the material.

[YES] Can be added to membership sites
The material is added to a membership site. There are several different kinds of membership sites. And some writers differentiate the rights based on whether the membership is paid or free. Or whether the content is informational only (personal use) for the members or any rights can be passed on to the members.

[YES] Can be offered through auction sites
Can be sold or given away through an auction site.

You could write the articles yourself but having them ghostwritten, or using PLR, provides a boost in getting started and saves you time.

Hi, today we have a guest post from my buddy Edmund Loh.

Attracted to impressive figures like making 6-figures in one week? Just hype? Or do you still desperately want to believe it’s possible? Here’s my take…

After reading several sales letters in the Internet Marketing arena, we are conditioned to listen to stories of what seems to be overnight success. Stories on how obscene amounts of money were made in a ridiculously short time span.

While it’s possible to achieve that kind of success, the problem is that many people get the illusion that it’s just as possible to get rich quick…

… Without doing any lick of hard work.

In Thinking Big, Donald Trump talks about how the media popularized young celebrities and amazing stories of overnight success, giving young people the subtle idea that they can do it too. They can get rich quick. They can get famous. And do them without working hard for it.

I haven’t met a single successful person who achieved his or her level of success without putting in hard work. Of course, the idea of working hard puts many people off already.

As in the case of making money from the Internet, it’s possible to make the big bucks but only if a solid business system is in place. It’s likened to building a pipe system. It is only when the system is in place, you can start drawing water from the well at the switch of the lever.

The Internet being no exception from offline in this area, it will take time to build a business until it’s solid and self-sustainable. Once your business model is in place and fully working, you too can draw your own wealth from the E-Commerce pie!

What are your thoughts? Submit your comment below.
Edmund and I love to hear from you.

From Part 2 of these 5-posts series, now Dee Power of Your Financial Independence Day is going to talk about Selecting of Blogging Platforms.

Open a Blogger account. It’s free. If you prefer you can set up a website rather than a blog.

Setting up a website isn’t difficult once you know the basics. You will need to use a “what you see is what you get” wysiwyg html composer. Those work like a word processing program. What you see on the screen is how your web page will look. The html coding is done by the program.

The other alternative is to hire someone to design the home page of your site and one inner page. When you add additional pages copy the code for the inner page and replace the narrative with the new content. Save the page with a file name that includes the keyword phrase. Link the new page to the home page with the file name. This may sound confusing but once you’ve done it several times it’s pretty easy. The easiest web design is to use two columns. The first column is the widest and contains the content of your page, the second column contains links to all the inner pages. You can also put AdSense revenue in the second column as well as the main column.

Each inner page just has a link back to the home page. That way when you add a new page you only have to add the link to the home page and not every inner page.

You’ll need a domain and a web host. There are lots of places that will host your site for a reasonable monthly fee.

Use one of your keyword phrases as the name of your blog/website. If, let’s say, Quick Weight Loss Secrets is taken. Put your name in the blog, so it would be Quick Weight Loss Secrets from Dee. If you already have a website you can skip setting up a blog, or you can set up the blog to drive traffic to your website and to provide backlinks.

A backlink is a one way link back to your site. These backlinks mean increased traffic to your blog/website. Google looks at the number of backlinks when deciding the pagerank of a page. Pagerank is Google’s measure of importance of a website/blog and a web page. The more important the higher the ranking and, at least theoretically, the higher the results in the search results. You can find out the backlinks to your site by putting “links:your website url” in the search box at Google. So I would put in links: How to get a book published Authors Brian Hill and Dee Power for example.

Blogging is a website (don’t worry no website skills needed) that you update every day or so with posts about your chosen subject. Visitors can comment on your posts for others to see. Live Journal, Blogger, WordPress are just a few of the free sites where you can quickly and easily set up your blog. There are many, many, more blogging sites.

I like blogger because you’re allowed to put advertising on your blog. WordPress doesn’t allow advertising unless you set it up on your own domain and host the blog yourself.

Before you set up your blog come up with a good bio. You want to establish yourself as trustworthy and knowledgeable about your niche. People are more likely to buy from someone they trust. Include a photo of yourself. Some experts say that it’s perfectly okay to use a stock photo of someone else because attractive photos are found to be more trustworthy. If you’re using your own name I would suggest you use your own photo.

There may be some exceptions. If you’re a guy and your website or blog is about weddings, brides may not feel that you know what you’re talking about. Or if you’re obviously overweight, people may not believe your advice concerning weight loss unless you’re in the process of losing weight or have already lost a good amount of weight.

* * *

A closing note:
A blog is like a shop where you send your customers to. A blog is a 24-hour shop where it shows the products you are selling or promoting.

In article marketing, it consists of a proper simple system:

Traffic from article directories via article to your blog = Sales

From Part 1 of these 5-posts series, now Dee Power of Your Financial Independence Day is going to talk about Selecting of Several Niches on Day 2

Select several niches that appeal to you and that you’re enthusiastic about or that you want to learn about.

Given the current real estate market avoiding foreclosure is a popular subject, but if the subject depresses you, you won’t want to do the work necessary. On the other hand if you feel you’re providing valuable information and helping people with a serious problem then avoiding foreclosure might be just the niche for you.

Don’t choose a niche just because you think you can make money with it. And do yourself a favor and don’t choose a niche that is medically oriented unless you’re a nurse or a doctor. There’s too much chance for misinformation and hurting people. There’s a fine line between dispensing medical advice and providing alternative health care advice.

Even though you will be making money on the Internet reach out for niches beyond Internet marketing.

Make sure there are buyers in your niche. An easy way to do this is to use one of your keywords related to your niche. Plug it into Google and look at the advertisers or sponsored ads that show up on the page. If there are just a few it may not be a profitable niche for you. Key in “weight loss.” There are quite a few sponsored ads. If advertisers are willing to pay to place their ads on the pages that show up in a niche that means there are buyers willing to buy.

Now think of the ways you’d search for weight loss information in the search engines. These would be keyword phrases. Long tail keyword phrases are usually 3 to 5 words. “Lose weight” is a keyword phrase, “tips to lose weight fast” is a long tail keyword phrase.

Here are examples of keyword phrases:

lose weight fast
easy weight loss
quick weight loss
lose 10 lbs fast
tips to lose weight
secrets to fast weight loss
secrets to easy weight loss
weight loss tips
fast ways to lose weight
how to lose weight

The google tool bar has a suggestions drop down menu. When you key in “lose weight,” Google comes back with the suggestions of:

lose weight fast
lose weight in a week
lose weight quickly
lose weight in 2 weeks
lose weight quick
lose weight fast and safe
lose weight diet
lose weight in a week
lose weight fast diet

Add the phrases:

how to
how can I
how you can
tips to
ways to
secrets of

to the shorter key words such as tips to lose weight fast and you have even more keyword phrases.

You can get an idea of the competition for a keyword phrase, or how many websites/blogs are using the identical phrase by putting the phrase in quotes.

lose weight no quotes has 23,800,000 with that phrase
tips to lose weight, no quotes has 545,000
“tips to lose weight” has 166,000
tips to lose weight quickly, no quotes has 456,000
“tips to lose weight quickly” has 763

Always check the competition. You want lots of people looking for that phrase but not millions of competing sites. For more ideas on keyword phrases you can use go to:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Look for words that have high advertiser competition and mid range of search volume. Those are words that will earn more Adsense revenues for you.

I keyed in “lose weight and these are the suggested keyword phrases: “quickest way to lose weight” has high advertiser competition and a lower search volume. If I put “quickest way to lose weight” in the google search with quotes I see there are 96,800 competing sites. “Tips to lose weight” has 166,000. “Lose weight walking” has 53,400. In this case the best phrase to use would be “lose weight walking.”

You’re going to use the keyword phrases you find as part of your promotional efforts.

Open an EzineArticles account. It’s free. Ezinearticles allows 2 links in your author bio. One link is to your blog/website. The other can be to an internal page of your website. Link to different internal pages in different articles using different keyword phrases that gives you different backlinks.

* * *

A closing note from me: In fact, the fastest way to drive traffic is through article marketing from popular article directories such as Ezinearticles.com. It is tapping on the huge traffic flow and redirecting to your blog through the link at the bottom of your article called the “Resource Box”.

Today, I am very honored and delighted to have my good friend Dee Power of Your Financial Independence Day to share with us on “Article Marketing”

There was a contest done recently and it looks like many subscribers have similar questions on article marketing.

She is going to guest post 5 posts (including this) So here goes (and make sure you digest every bit of it)…

Selecting Your Niche Day 1

If you don’t have a website or an established blog your first step is to decide on a niche. A niche is a small subset of a market. For example: “pets” are a huge market, “dogs” a smaller market, dog food smaller yet. “Natural homemade dog food” would be a niche market.

Here’s another example Wedding – Wedding Apparel – Wedding * Dresses – Budget Wedding Dresses. And another Health – Lower Blood Pressure – Lower Blood Pressure Naturally- Lower Blood Pressure Naturally for Women. And another Jewelry- Gold Jewelry- Gold and Gemstone Jewelry – Gold and Gemstone Ankle Bracelets.

I’ve found that it works best for me if the niche is one I already know about or one I want to learn about. Don’t get all tangled up in picking the perfect niche with no competition and lots of searches. Just get started. You can refine the niche as you go along.

Get niche ideas by going down to your local grocery store. Look at the women’s lifestyle magazines and see what topics are popular. Saving money, weight loss, get out of debt, looking younger, and parenting are all evergreen topics. Remember to take the niche and narrow it. Get out of debt is a huge niche, how single Moms get out of debt is a smaller niche and more easily targeted. Or perhaps you might choose how college students can get out of debt, or seniors.

Go on the Internet and find newspapers’ websites.

Today, New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, and your local newspaper. Scan the headlines. What are people worried about? The real estate market fluctuation, protecting their money, how to sell their house in a down market, sports, and avoiding foreclosure are all exploitable niches. Go to Amazon and see the titles of the bestselling books. Look at the bestselling products in the category you’re considering. These days Amazon sells just about everything.

Visit www.magazines.com to browse through a huge selection of magazine categories.

Go to Ebay and look at the most searched for items or the most often used keyword phrases. Or go here eBay Pulse: trends, hot picks, cool stuff and popular searches on eBay.com

Google Groups – One of the suggestions later on is to post on groups as a way to promote your blog or website. In this case look for groups with a lot of members in a broad topic that interests you.

Yahoo Answers – People post questions that can be answered by anyone. Look for topics that have lots and lots of questions posted.

Or go to What’s Buzzing? You Tell Us! Top News and More – Yahoo! Buzz for the most searched for topics.

43 Things is a site where people post their goals. You can get an idea of what topics are of interest and that can help you decide on a niche with a built in customer base.

Once you’ve selected your niche make sure that people are interested in buying products or services for that niche. Raising Discus fish may be a fascinating niche but if no one wants to buy products about raising Discus fish it’s not a good niche to be in.

* * *

Submit your thoughts and questions in the comment box below. Dee and I love to hear from you.

I’m Nicole Dean, and I’m a Guest Expert here this week, chatting about How to Boost your Affiliate Commissions. I know from experience that getting a few affiliate checks is fun. But, I also know that getting bigger and bigger affiliate checks gets to be nearly addicting.

So far this week, during this series, I’ve written about:

Starting an email list.

Writing honest reviews.

Requesting interviews with experts.

Tweaking your error pages.

Today we’ll wrap up our series. I could go in any of a number of directions here, honestly, as there are more than five ways to boost your affiliate commissions. I recommend that you check out check out Affiliate Payraise™:27 Ways To Increase Your Affiliate Commissions by Jimmy D. Brown for more ideas.

But, we’ll talk today about traffic. Without traffic, you can’t get any affiliate sales. You need eyeballs – and lots of them looking at your sales messages in your ezine and on your site. Yes, it all comes down to people. People are the ones with the money to spend.

So, you’ll want to get your message in front of as many people as you possibly can.

But, what’s the best way to generate traffic?

Is it …

Blogging?

Podcasting?

Video marketing?

Article marketing?

Pay per click?

Writing and distributing free reports?

Social marketing?

The answer is … Yes. They all work. Those and about 200 other methods of traffic generating that I can name off the top of my head.

Solo ads? Yep.

Joint Ventures? Certainly.

Forum marketing? Absolutely. If you don’t believe that it works, check out John’s “60 WSO Success Stories of Internet Marketers” Report – a collection of tips from 60 marketers.

They all work. BUT…

Here’s the big disclaimer. They only work if you DO them.

So, rather than trying to learn the ins and outs of all of the traffic strategies above, just focus on doing one or two of them really really well.

Create and distribute one video daily for a month – if you’ll actually commit to doing it.

or…

Learn the ins and outs of Pay Per Click, set up your testing, and focus on getting your ads to convert the best you can.

or…

Devote the next month to writing one blog post daily, and repurposing those posts into a report that you can distribute as a freebie to Joint Venture partners.

My point is that you don’t have to know how to do everything perfectly. Just choose a few tactics that work, and commit to doing that one thing for a solid month. After that month is up, evaluate the results and determine whether to continue or to focus on another strategy for the next month. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Heck, if I can guest blog for three months straight – anything is possible.

On that note, it was a pleasure to be here. I’d like to thank John for inviting me, and I’d like to thank those of you who commented. (It makes the week fly by.)

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this series of posts about boosting your affiliate income, and I look forward to contacting several of you who commented with your prizes.

Warmly,

By choosing #2 – you’re helping people to view more pages of your website, rather than just clicking the red “X” to leave.

The free report that you show on that page is a brandable one that is filled with your affiliate links. (Need some brandable reports, audios, and videos? Go to www.BrandableStuff.com )

Pretty sneaky, eh?

Now, as I mentioned in my first blog post here, I’m on vacation with no internet (until I go to a wifi hotspot) so I’ll have to post a “how to” video later – unless John chooses to beat me to the punch and posts one below.

If someone has a link with good instructions for customizing your 404 error pages, both on a regular web host and in your WordPress theme - feel free to post it below.

I’ll be back soon with the final post in this series. Please leave your comments below!

Warmly,

Hi. I’m Nicole Dean. I’m a Guest Expert here on John’s blog this week as part of a Blog World Tour that I’m doing. I’ve been all over the World the last few weeks, and all over the ‘net, too, hopping around to the best marketing blogs – posting valuable information, recommendations for resources, and a little humor along the way.

This week, I’m discussing ways to Boost your Affiliate Income. So far I’ve talked about Starting a List and Writing Honest Detailed Reviews.

Today, I’ll talk about interviews. One of my favorite ways to boost affiliate commission is by doing interviews, whether written, audio or video. You simply ask the owners of the products that you’re recommending if they’d be willing to be interviewed.

However, there is a right way and a wrong way to get these interview to earn commissions for you.

The best way is to do what Jimmy D. Brown of Affiliatenaire.com teaches and that is “Useful but Incomplete.” You’ll want to ask questions in your interview that provide useful information to your readers – always. However, keep the interview slightly incomplete so that the reader wants to learn more.

Now, I’m not talking about playing games with your readers. However, for instance, in a blog post about boosting your affiliate commission, you’ll only be able to get so far in one blog post. So, it makes sense to refer people to a valuable resource where they can learn more.

For instance…

To learn more ways to increase your affiliate commission, check out Affiliate Payraise™:27 Ways To Increase Your Affiliate Commissions by Jimmy D. Brown.

The same should be done with interviews. If the course that you’re promoting as an affiliate is a one-hour teleseminar about how to get started with affiliate marketing, then it wouldn’t make sense to schedule an interview with that expert to talk for one hour about “how to do affiliate marketing”, now would it? It gives the listener to reason to buy the product.

Yet, that’s what people ask me to do on an ongoing basis.

Dear Nicole,

Can you please do an exclusive interview about “How to Outsource” promoting your Outsource Weekly course?

My response is usually – let’s narrow that down a bit. Otherwise, people who are listening get overwhelmed in the call, think they know everything that I have to teach, and don’t buy the course – which isn’t fair to them, because they miss out on the bulk of the info that I teach.

However, if we’d do an interview about “Common Mistakes that Cost People Money when Outsourcing” or “Why Outsourcing is Important” – those topics are useful, but incomplete in that the readers or listeners would want more information.

You follow?

ok. Back to the topic at hand. Interviews – whether written or audio or video – are always great ways to earn affiliate commissions.

Simply email 5 people who you’d like to interview and ask them if they’d be willing to be interviewed and, if it’s a written interview, include the questions when you ask. .

I normally prefer written interviews because I can answer the questions on my schedule. As you now know, between travel and being a busy mom – sometimes I write the interview responses in the car or at karate practice or sitting at the veterinarian’s office.

How do you get experts to agree?

Give the questions up front if you’re asking for a written interview. I don’t know how many emails I get that say simply “Can I send you some questions?” – Why waste the time and add an extra step? Just shoot the questions over and then send a reminder – again with the questions in case they were misplaced.

Be flexible if you’re asking for an audio interview. Be on their schedule, available when they’re available. Let’s face it. Unless you’re Oprah, you can’t go around asking your experts to jump through hoops.

Follow-up. Any of the “real” experts are in high demand and may need a few reminders. Don’t take it personally. Just follow-up and remind them.

Once you get the interview – promote the heck out of it. Send a note to your list (since you now have one), Twitter about it, post about it on Facebook, StumbleUpon the interview, buy solo ads – do whatever you need to to get as many eyeball on that interview page.

That’ll get people talking about it – and then you can use the stats from that interview to get more!

For instance, your next email can say – “I did an interview with Greta Guru and we sold 104 copies of her ebook so far. I’d love to interview you, too. Here are my questions.”

It’s an easy way to get content – especially if you’re not a writer. Plus, it’s an extremely easy task to outsource. If you want written interviews, hire a Virtual Assistant to send inquiries for you. That way you can focus on doing what you do best – whatever that is.

On that note – I’ll be back tomorrow with the next lesson in this series. Stick around.

Warmly,
I’m Nicole Dean and I’m John’s Guest Expert here this week, doing a series about “5 Ways to Boost your Affiliate Income”. Obviously he’s qualified to write these, but it’s always fun to have someone new come by to share their ideas.

Yesterday, I chatted about the importance of having a list so that you can earn more from every visitor to your website.

Hopefully you took my advice, so that all of these other methods of increasing your affiliate income will work better. But, if not, there’s still time. Go back and reread the first tip of this series here: Start a List to Boost Affiliate Income.

Our next strategy is all about showing a reason why someone should buy what you’re recommending. Yes, it’s one thing to say “OH! You’ll just LOVE it!” but it’s another to say “Well, honestly, I wasn’t sure either but this is why I recommend it. It’s given me these results.”

You see the diference? It comes down to one word. And, that word is “Why?”

Anyone with children know this one word.

Clean your room.

Why?

Brush your teeth.

Why?

Feed the dog.

Why?

Well, every time you tell your list members or your blog readers to buy something, they say the same thing. “Why?”

That is what we’ll discuss today. Sharing honest reviews about products that you recommend.

To make this work, you’ll need to be two things: Specific and Honest

If you’re recommending a book about Finances, or for instance, “The Four Hour Workweek”, you can say your honest opinion. For instance, I’ll write up an impromtu review of the “Four Hour Workweek” for you as an example.

There were some things in the book that I found inspirational. I enjoyed his “pep talks” very much.

Other areas like the online business part, I thought was weak (perhaps because I’ve been doing this for several years, so there was nothing “wow” about it). He pretty much says to start an online business so that you can earn money and quit your job. If you’re reading this blog then you’re ahead of the game already.

And the part about outsourcing your personal assisting overseas… well, I guess it’s just not what I want. I have my mom working for me, and my friend Tracy is my executive assistant, and I wouldn’t want them that far away. I like that my mom can come over on a moment’s notice to run to the bank for me or can notice that my hair is looking scraggly and call my hairdresser Shannin and make an appointment for me. And, she can grab groceries and bring them over. And, I love that Tracy makes travel plans for me – including finding the nearest Sushi place. I have nothing against working with people in other countries. I just prefer having people who are local to help with personal assisting.

My favorite part of the book was learning about how to spend time overseas working. I’d often wondered about a lot of the issues that he brought up like how to find a place to stay, getting wifi access, and even power cords in other countries. Speaking of which I should reread that book, now that I think of it.

Overall, the book is worth the money. I’d recommend buying a copy, then passing it on to a friend who’s thinking about leaving the rat race to work from home.

Do I actually WANT a four hour workweek? Not now. I’m still in the process of building my business and I enjoy the challenge that it offers. In fact, every year I challenge myself to double my income.

So, while I like the concept of the book, some of it is just not applicable to my life. I prefer a 3 hours work day, to a 4 hour work week, honestly, with the option to take a week off to travel. Thank God for Outsourcing! My Virtual Assistants, Graphics Designers, and Techies keep me looking good whether I’m working of taking off 5 weeks to head to the woods where there’s no wifi.

See? I gave you my honest opinion about the book. So, now if you buy it and notice the part about the offshore assistant or feel the online business advice is weak, you’ll relate and say “Yes, she told me about that.”

However, if all I did on my blog an in my ezine was say “Oh THIS is the best thing ever” about something new each week, you’d think I was a big phony, just pushing stuff to push it, right?

People buy from those they KNOW, LIKE, ,and TRUST.

You can’t trust someone unless you understand whether they’re being real with you or not.

Be real with your readers. Nothing is perfect. Find one thing that is a weakness and warn your readers about it in advance. Honestly if it’s something really bad – they might buy it out of curiousity. (If you don’t believe me, you may need to start reading my Weird Niche Wednesdays – bird costumes, plastic turkey wishbones, etc. It’s a hoot!)

Well, that’s tip #2, guys. I’ll be back with #3 tomorrow!

Warmly,
Nicole Dean

Hi. I’m Nicole Dean, and I was invited here by John to be a guest expert this week. All summer long, I’m doing a Blog World Tour where I hop from blog to blog, meeting new readers and sharing free information as well as recommendations for valuable resources.

So far, I’ve visited a variety of blogs, from work at home success blogs, to internet marketing blogs. It’s been quite an adventure to say the least.

Oh, and a quick note. I give away prizes at each stop on my journey to people who take the time to comment. Usually you can win the report of your choice from SRZone.com – check out the available reports by clicking here. Hint: My favorite is Homepreneur Habits.

So, keep an eye on your email account that you use when you leave comments. That’s how we send prize notifications. You can only win though, if you comment, so please do leave some thoughts. And, yes, that’s the only reason we’ll contact you.

Onward. At the moment, as you can see in the picture below, I’m sitting overlooking a golf course in Crossville, Tennessee, watching golfers go by. I’m on vacation, but I have my laptop so, while the kids rest a bit, I’m pounding out some of these blog posts. Freedom to travel where I want, when I want is one of the reasons why I’ve chosen to earn money with affiliate marketing. And, that is our topic today.

First of all, what qualifies me to talk about this topic here? Well, anyone can talk. So, I should instead answer the better question – Why should you listen to me?

Let’s see. I’m a successful affiliate marketer. While I wouldn’t classify myself as a “Super Affiliate”, I am the top affiliate for a number of programs and one of the top 10 affiliates for a number of others. I earn affiiate checks from a variety of programs like Clickbank.com, CJ.com, Amazon.com, Linkshare.com – as well as many privately-run programs, too.

I’m also an affiliate manager, and have been since 2006 which means that I run affiliate programs, too. My main client is Jimmy D. Brown (check out our affiliate program at www.Infoprofitshare.com). While managing the InfoProfitShare.com affiliate program, I receive many of the same questions day after day from struggling affiliates. So, I see affilliate marketing from both sides of the coin, which I feel gives me a unique perspective to help you.

When talking with John, he said that the demographics for this blog as far as readers go were bloggers who understood the basics of affiliate marketing, but who were not seeing a full time income from it yet. I’ll assume that many of the readers here are earning under $1000/month with their affiliate marketing efforts. So, that’s who I’ll be talking to this week. However, if you are earning less – or more, this information will still be valuable. I promise.

—– Sidenote —–

If you’re just getting started and need a guide, I, of course, recommend John’s guide: Blogger’s Paycheck. Buy it. Devour it.

After you read and implement the info in that guide, if you’d like to make your knowledge even more powerful, I’d recommend then signing up for Affiliatenaire for additional perspective, strategies, and clarity.

—– End Sidenote —–

Back to intermediate level. I am going to have a very difficult time keeping this down to only 5 ways to boost your affiliate income, but I’m going to try to keep it short and concise so you can choose a few of these ideas and run with them without overwhelm.

On that note, let’s begin. #1 Way to Boost Affiliate Income: Money is in the List.

The #1 way to really increase your affiliate income is by growing a responsive email list of some sort. Now, I’d prefer to start with the easiest method of increasing your affiliate commission, but everything else hinges on the fact that you have a list. Without it, the remaining methods will all be less effective. They’ll still work, but it’s just harder all around without a list. So, starting a mailing list is key.

You only need three things.

A website or blog. I’m assuming that’s something you already have.

An autoresponder or mailing service. That handles all of your messages, making sure they are delivered, follows all SPAM laws and keeps things running for you while you’re on vacation.

Valuable Content. You obviously need a good topic and great info to keep people opening your messages. You can buy it, write it yourself, outsource it, or even borrow it from affiliate programs.

Once you have this in place, everything else will suddenly become easier. You’ll have a list. A list gives you clout and negotiating power. A list gives you cash on demand if you treat your readers well and build a relationship with them. A list gives you a boost in your affiliate income.

I use this example all the time, but it’s because it’s true. Let’s say you have two visitors to your website, Sally and Mary.

Sally comes, looks around, enjoys the content of your blog, posts a comment and leaves through an affiliate link. She may buy or not. Let’s say she does and you get $10. Yay!

Mary comes, finds your list signup where you promise to deliver more valuable information about your niche topic. She signs up and sees an incredible offer on your thank you page and buys it. You earn $10. Yay!

So, what’s the difference? The difference is that I haven’t mentioned their last names yet.

Sally Single – You’ll earn $10 one time from her one single time, because you have no way to bring her back. She’s off like most readers to find the next shiny thing on the ‘net.

Mary Multiple – You can feasibly earn money from Mary forever if you treat her right. Mary signs up, not expecting anything great, but you “wow!” her with valuable content as well as recommendations for products that she really wants. Mary grows to love you and buys just about everything you recommend because she trusts you.

I could write about this topic all day, but instead, I will refer you to my mentor, the List Master, Jimmy D. Brown. He’s put together a free report entitled “Six Steps to Six Figures with List Marketing” and you can grab it free here. (READ the report, but also notice the few followup messages that you receive afterwards. Seriously, they’re awesome to study and learn from.)

And that, my friends, is where I’ll leave off for you. I’ll be back with more tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

Hi guys, my name is Sean and I have created a product showing you exactly how I have been making $2500 – $4000 from eBay and selling offline for over 4 years.

No lies here and nothing to hide, I have proof of my income and I am always happy to show people recent screenshots of my account if requested.

Now, product selling is so simple and a form of income that can be very Automated once you have everything in place.

Getting everything in place is the work here, but my guide shows you how I managed to do this.

Okay so the first key is to sell products!

    * I will show you how I found a supplier.
* How you can work without a supplier.
* How to find what to sell

I found my niche very fast, it is not hard to think outside the box on this. People copy websites all the time, you can easily copy popular sellers as well.

An advantage of selling products your self is the bigger profit. OK, so you have to deal with customers, but I show you how I do this fast. Dealing with customers directly also gives you the chance to build an email list.

Just like everything on the internet, whether working with CPA, Affiliate Marketing, Writing Blogs, You need traffic!

eBay will help you a lot with this as the traffic will come automatically, but there are other simple techniques that people overlook, and not all of you will use eBay to sell:

    * I will show you how to create a simple network for free, to bring more traffic. A Technique mainly used in CPA to lift sites through the PR rankings.

    * I will show you how to target Twitter and get 1000s of followers. Some people actually charge quite a lot for this, but it is so easy you can do it yourself.

Best of all, I show you a paid source of traffic that not many people reveal. I have seen CPA guides charging 5-10 times the price of my guide, and all they do is reveal different ways to use these techniques. Good thing about this is your ad shows up whenever users type in keywords or URLS you appoint.

My basic tips for you are:

   1. Find a niche (If you already have a blog or website, great!)
   2. Find popular items (You may already know what you want to sell)
   3. Research competition
   4. Find your source
   5. Start putting products out there
   6. MAKE MONEY!
   7. Explore other traffic resources for more MONEY!!

You can go do this on your own, but my guide shows how you can put this all together in more detail.

Once you start putting products up for sale, your process will be automated, I show you how I managed all this, I spent 2 weeks overseas and was still running the same business, I only worked 12 hours over the 2 weeks!

* * *

This, in no way is acceptable for any well trained marketer to take verbal or written pot shots at
one area of Internet Marketing that has been a veritable backbone of support…

allowing thousands of would be Internet entrepreneurs the opportunity to break into the
Internet world on the proverbial “shoestring”!

This is the information age and information is the boon of cyberspace…

Fortunately, over the years, many talented authors have provided well written information
solving problems, providing solutions and teaching others “how to” :

whether it’s in the form of a digital e-book, report, software script or a simple video…the information
provided fills a need and, usually comes with some type of Rights!

These Rights are a simple way to get their message out around the Globe, while giving others
choices!

Number one in importance, the basic benefit of offering instant product service and sales with
resale or creative license to those who may or may not possess the talent to do so otherwise!

Not to say, there isn’t a lot of rank amateurism out there, but taking action is learning and
learning is what all the top notch Marketers themselves went through in the beginning…

Not to get off subject here, but one of the most popular foods in the world is nothing but a variety
of rehashed ingredients from other cuts of beef, pork, etc…It’s called the Hot Dog!

Marketers, quit Hot Dogging!

Yes, you can get burned with inferior PLR, MRR or any type of product: digital or physical…

that’s the world of consumerism…

Toy recalls, auto recalls, food contamination, etc.

It all comes down to the end product being something that is beneficial, or, does offer a new
slant of expertise on any variety of Internet subjects.

And, I’m willing to bet the naysayers don’t have the common good in mind when they make such
statements…

Because I for one have seen too many top Quality products coming from all around the World that if applied the correct way are very beneficial to those who use them as a learning or teaching tool.

As with all things, including Rights products, If your going to use them as your own, then find at
least one or two things you can add to make it better than it was when you got it!

It could be something as simple as updating resources, your own expertise from examples, or
modernizing a concept that would be relevant on a subject now, versus maybe two to three years
back.

These are the features you can add that will set you apart and take an oldie but goodie and bring it back in version 2.0, 3.0 etc …

There is some Great talent out there, Go For It!

from am_kaiser…wish you a perfect WEEK!

Over the past 18 months, I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to conduct an investigation of the online money making industry and discover exactly what sort of scams are out there, and what really cuts the mustard.

My journey started when a lady, Jane, came to me distraught that she had continually wasted her money buying products which turned out to over-promise and under-deliver. Instead of making the millions she had dreamed about, Jane instead ended up on the brink of bankruptcy.

Luckily, my career as an investigative journalist had given me exactly the right tools I needed to scrutinize the industry, and discover if there really was a way to make money online.

I have to say, the investigation was an eye-opener. There were countless people out there who were happily taking money (and big amounts of money) from poor, unsuspecting customers on the premise of having some wonderful system which would make them $100,000 every day! It’s a claim which seems so attractive to so many people, and it’s easy to see why people continually hand over their hard-earned cash on the promise of financial freedom.

Along the way, however, I also came across an elite group who were busily working away making great amounts of money online through systems they themselves had devised. This amazing group of people were actually telling the truth about their income, and putting their methods into place, I soon found that I too was making money!

But the real question is – how did I find this treasure amongst all the trash?

Well firstly, I went through a whole load of trash before I found the good stuff. Luckily for me, it wasn’t my own cash that was being eaten away on false guarantees.

I also spoke to a lot of people, and did a whole lot of research. Some products were instantly dismissed because there was no substantiated evidence about the money they were making. Some required a little more digging before I discovered that the ways they were making money weren’t the ways that they were describing in their guides.

I had a team of people trying out different systems, some had a little success, some none, and a very few had good success.

But what about you, how can you be sure that you’re not being scammed by one of these untrustworthy companies?

Well, firstly, I think it’s important to do some research. And if you don’t have the time or the resources, then listen to the advice of someone who has.

Secondly, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. I don’t know anyone who made one million in one hour, or even overnight, on the internet – so if someone is claiming that they will be able to do that for you – take it with a large grain of salt.

Thirdly, there are a few different ways that you can make money online and you need to decide what’s best for you. If you have a lot of time but no money, then there are great systems that can work for you. However, if you have money but not a lot of time, then there are better systems that you can use to maximise your online profits. It’s important to decide what you’re willing to commit in exchange for what you will get in return – decide this and you are over the first hump.

And lastly, choose a system by someone who is passionate about what they do. Someone who will take time to answer your questions and who genuinely has your best interests at heart.

Not sure how to find someone like that? Grab a copy of Canned Genius and read my interviews with people whose claims are real, whose systems will work for you and who really do want you to succeed.

As I sit and think about what to include in this article, I find myself going back to when I first started my blog Singapore Kid’s Places, 18 months ago. I was a complete newbie, and I really had to learn everything from scratch. I envied the youngsters in their 20s (or younger) who found their way around a computer so easily. I didn’t even know how to copy and paste, so I had a lot to learn.

But I was determined to start something on-line that I could work on while the kids were at school; something that I enjoyed and that was fulfilling. Little did I know what a journey blogging and Internet Marketing would be.

I set my blog up using the blogger platform which I found ideal for me as I had a phobia about those four letters HTML. I was intimidated by all the jargon, and blogger was so user friendly that it didn’t take me long to work it out. I still love blogger although there are fundamental flaws with regards to SEO and also the long term goals of a blogger blog. But Blogger blogs can look very professional and there are some talented people out there who can tweak a template to make it unique.

But think long and hard before starting a blog with blogger in terms of your long term goals. If you want to sell the blog a couple of years down the track, don’t use blogger. You will also have more control using a wordpress blog, and access to some amazing plugins that are not available for blogger. My next blog will use wordpress and I will get over my phobia!

My blog has come a long way from the early days where I threw any widget up there just to fill the page. I have learnt that less is more, and readers really appreciate a well designed page, without too many distractions. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and this will often determine whether a reader will stay or move on. Even if the content is superb, I cannot stay on a page that is jam packed with ads, has spelling and grammatical errors and sloppy layout.

I have listed some of the Does and Don’ts I have learnt over the past 18 months. Some are still on my list to achieve (like “Don’t procrastinate”!). Most important is to enjoy the journey, learn all you can and take action!

1.	Take action.
2.	Plan and set your goals. Be specific.
3.	Decide on a monetisation strategy early on.
4.	Learn from the big guys but also follow the little guys who are willing to help.
5.	Don’t be afraid to fail, it is through failure that we grow.

6.	Outsource if the job is too difficult or timeconsuming.
7.	Be true to yourself.
8.	Don’t be a sleazy marketer.
9.	Give value for money.
10.	Give give give.

11.	Make a business out of what you love to do in your spare time.
12.	Be creative, think outside the box.
13.	Don’t neglect your family.
14.	Don’t subscribe to too many newsletters, delete any that don’t give value.
15.	Don’t procrastinate.

16.	Don’t think big, think HUGE.
17.	Don’t expect people to buy your product just because you tell them to.
18.	Connect with people, build relationships. Don’t isolate yourself.
19.	Treat people with respect and talk to them like they were your best friend.
20.	Give your reader the best content possible.

21.	Treat yourself with respect.
22.	Congratulate yourself for every small step you take on the learning curve.
